DSD Director's Message

As we step further into a new century, we increasingly realize the responsibility we are facing in the future in so many ways. One of these ways is the pledge each of us made to the AMERICAN ROSE SOCIETY as we became a member. We follow in the footsteps of many who toiled to make this organization the success it is today and has been for more than a century. This success was achieved by many who gave freely of their time, knowledge, and, in many instances personal finances. It is always amazing to me when looking for a particular rose to think of the time that someone has invested for us to be able to follow a rose’s genealogy back to its beginning. It is also amazing and gratifying to visit Rose Societies and see so many people gathered together for the sole purpose of learning more about the rose and being in the company of other rose lovers. It is even more amazing to visit gardens and see the look of pure love demonstrated by people looking over a garden, as if it were the very first rose garden they had ever seen. We in the DEEP SOUTH DISTRICT are truly blessed by having so many excellent Rosarians. It is my great joy to be able to serve as your District Director, and to follow in the footsteps of the many great Rosarians who have contributed to the success of our District. I sincerely hope that you will enjoy our redesigned web site and find it useful. If you belong to a local society, please increase your level of participation for the sake of the rose. If you have not yet joined a local society, check our “Local Society” web page for a rose society near you. And, by all means, subscribe to the Deep South District Bulletin for all the rosarian news in the states of Alabama, Florida and Georgia (see “The Bulletin” on our home page.
